Prof. Cecilia K. Y. Chan from the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre (TALIC) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) was invited to deliver a keynote speech at UM MINT × IUCEL 2026, held at Univerisity of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 8–9 October 2026.

The two-day conference brought together over 300 participants to explore emerging approaches to teaching and learning in higher education. Prof. Chan joined other distinguished international speakers, including Prof. Jeff DeGraff from the University of Michigan and Prof. Diana Laurillard from University College London.

In her keynote presentation, “AI-giarism Is Not the Problem: Designing AI-Resilient Assessment for Thinking,” Prof. Chan emphasised the importance of rethinking assessment practices in the age of generative AI. Rather than focusing primarily on detecting AI-generated content, she encouraged educators to design assessments that promote genuine student thinking and meaningful learning.

The conference was opened by Prof. Dr. Hasniza Zaman Huri, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International) of Univerisity of Malaya, who addressed the challenges of AI governance and academic integrity. These issues closely align with Prof. Chan's research interests and highlight the importance of responsible AI integration in higher education.

Prof. Chan expressed her appreciation to Univerisity of Malaya and the organising committee for the invitation and the opportunity to exchange ideas with international educators. She also extended special thanks to Dr. Eunice Soh Xinwei for her warm hospitality and support throughout the visit.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen international academic exchange and advance discussions on educational innovation. Prof. Chan's participation reflects TALIC's continued commitment to promoting human-centred approaches to AI integration and meaningful assessment practices in higher education.
