The Global GAP

The Global Generative AI Assessment Project (GAP) is a ground-breaking initiative that seeks to revolutionise educational assessments on a global scale. Spearheaded by Professor Cecilia Chan, the project will reshape the landscape of assessment practices through the strategic and evidence-based integration of AI.

At the core of the project is a commitment to bridging the gap between existing knowledge and the optimal utilisation of AI in assessments. By delving into the nuances of AI integration across specific assessment types, the project will tackle the fundamental question of how and when AI can be effectively incorporated into student assessment processes without impeding their learning. Through a multifaceted approach that encourages a re-evaluation of traditional assessment methods and a deep reflection on assessment objectives, GAP aims to elevate AI assessment literacy across educational levels and disciplines, inspiring a paradigm shift in educational assessment practices.

The transformative vision of GAP has resonated with scholars, schools, and educational institutions worldwide, igniting a global movement to examine and define the role of AI in educational assessments. The project is poised to deliver a comprehensive array of outcomes, including the establishment of a community of practice, the development of a dedicated GAP website as a hub for resources and information, the sharing of impactful case studies, the hosting of monthly seminars to foster dialogue and knowledge exchange, the creation of a thought-provoking podcast, the publication of an peer-reviewed and edited book on AI in assessment, the publication of a special issue in a high impact factor academic journal, the formulation of policies and guidelines to shape best practices, the design of an online AI course tailored to the GAP framework, and culminating in a landmark conference to be held in Hong Kong in two years’ time.

Through these dynamic endeavours, the AI in Education Lab and GAP collaborators are committed to shaping the future of education. As the project gains momentum, it is poised to kickstart a transformative shift in educational practices and paving the way for a more inclusive, efficient, and insightful educational landscape that empowers learners and educators alike.
