On 11 March 2025, over 400 participants joined the launch event for the Community of Practice (CoP) on Enriching Future-Ready Education with GenAI and Beyond, established under the Hong Kong Teaching Excellence Alliance (HKTEA) and backed by the by the Hong Kong University Grants Committee (UGC).
Professor Xiang Zhang, the President and Vice-chancellor of HKU, delivered his Opening Remarks to call for endeavours in AI education and echo with the CoP initiatives. Professor James Tang, the Secretary-General of the UGC, welcomed all to this significant occasion.
By putting their leaves into the tree frame, which symbolises the growth of AI in education with shared efforts, the core members of the CoP and VIPs marked the start of this community. Audiences also dropped their leaves, took group photos with customised slogans, and took Polaroids as souvenirs – Exciting moments were commemorated, and the new chapter of collaboration, innovation, and advancement has opened.
Mr. Henry Hooi, the Acting Chairman at Digital Domain Holdings Limited, shared his industry insights through the Keynote speech.
Prof. Cecilia Chan, the Chair of the CoP and the Professor of Education at TALIC, HKU, introduced CoP and shared its objectives and upcoming plans.
Dr. Julia Chen, the Chair of the HKTEA and Director of the Educational Development Centre at PolyU, gave the closing remarks with enthusiasm, confidence, and hope to the development of CoP.
Participants, organisations, and institutions from diverse regions and fields showed invaluable support by meeting up and networking with each other, as well as exchanging AI-related resources and thoughts.
Overall, the launch event was a resounding success, kicking off the UGC AI Community of Practice – Together, we thrive to lead AI in education, from Hong Kong to world.
