AI Literacy Course

Our team is dedicated to developing a variety of engaging courses for AI in education and AI literacy. Multiple institutions and schools, such as HKU, St. Margaret’s Co-Ed School, St. Stephen’s Girls’ College, YMCA of Hong Kong Christian College, Yew Chung International School, and St. Paul’s College, have already adopted our AI literacy courses, recognising the transformative potential of AI in education.

These courses serve as a resource for students and teachers seeking to deepen their understanding of AI, its implications within education, and its capacity to revolutionise teaching and learning experiences. Through a dynamic blend of engaging video lectures, interactive activities, and assessments, participants delve into key AI concepts, including Generative AI (GenAI), real-world applications of AI in education, challenges and advantages of AI technologies, and more.

AI for Science Education Programme

計劃簡介

我們的AI科學教育計劃呼應教育局的「『智』為學理」撥款計劃（EDBCM 第 227/2024 號），旨在賦能中學教師，滿足人工智能時代的教學需求。

「人工智能初中科學科教育計劃」包含一系列網上課程、專題講座、工作坊及校本支援，針對香港科學課程設計，因地制宜，為教師提供實操性強的學習體驗。

在國際知名AI教育專家陳嘉玉教授的帶領下，該計劃分為四部分：

人工智能短期課程通過一系列自主進度的網上課程、專題講座及訓練工作坊，為中學科學科教師提供全面、專業的人工智能培訓。

★每所學校最多可提名8名教師報名參加。
6小時網上人工智能課程
涵蓋AI教育、AI倫理、AI評估與AI素養框架，並提供初中科學課實踐活動。教師可根據個人時間靈活自主地安排學習進度，無固定上課時間。
6場人工智能專題講座
由多位業界合作夥伴、業界專家、港大及其他國際頂尖大學教授主持，涵蓋多個AI教育及科學教學相關主題，包括AI驅動的評估、AI數據訓練等。
2小時工作坊：教師專用AI工具
介紹各類AI應用程式，如影片生成、數據分析、教學設計、學習輔助與行政任務，包括實際示範與教學情境演練，幫助教師有效使用AI工具與教學實操。
地點：

①網上人工智能課程：線上學習平台。

②人工智能專題講座：ZOOM講座錄影。

③工作坊：港大校園，具體信息將於日後公佈。
本團隊將聯同業界合作伙伴為參與學校提供校本支援服務，通過工作坊引導教師探索開源AI模型與AI驅動機器人在科學教學中的實踐應用。

該部分將由 1 至 2 名擁有理工學相關學士/硕士/博士學位的導師到校提供支援。

★無人數報名限制，僅限科學課老師參與課堂活動。
3小時 x 2場工作坊
工作坊一 - 機器學習（Teachable Machine）：以「智慧海洋與珊瑚保育」為主題，引導教師使用 Teachable Machine 與 TensorFlow，透過收集數據與訓練 AI 圖像分類模型來分辨香港石珊瑚品種，體驗並掌握 AI 在環境教育中的實際應用技巧。

工作坊二 - AI與5G物聯網教學應用：探索AI與物聯網的教學整合，在實踐活動中獲得動態的科學教育學習體驗，增強教師在教學中運用技巧的能力。
博覽會/會議
在項目結束時，教師可通過網絡或其他途徑，展示AI結合初中科學課程的項目成果。
時間：參與學校可根據日程自由安排時間，最早可於2025年7月開始。

地點：我們的團隊與業界合作夥伴將親臨參與學校的校園，提供現場支援。
本團隊將聯同業界合作伙伴為參與學校提供校本支援服務，通過工作坊引導教師探索開源AI模型與AI驅動機器人在科學教學中的實踐應用。

該部分將由 1 至 2 名擁有理工學相關學士/硕士/博士學位的導師到校提供支援。

地點：我們的團隊與業界合作夥伴將親臨參與學校的校園，提供現場支援。
本進階課程專為尋求深化技術應用的教師設計，通過三個核心階段，全面提升人工智能在教學與行政上的實踐能力。

該部分將由 1 至 2 名擁有理工學相關學士/硕士/博士學位的導師到校提供支援。

★無人數報名限制，僅限科學科教師參與課堂活動。
3小時工作坊
亮点一 - 基礎人工智能應用開發：引導教師以難度較低的科學主題為切入點，初步體驗並構建基礎的AI教學輔助應用程式。

亮点二 - 進階人工智能應用開發：進一步挑戰更高難度的科學教學主題（如模擬科學實驗等）。協助教師深入掌握客製化AI教學應用程式開發技巧，以應對進階的課堂教學需求。

亮点三 - 人工智能自動化工作流：探索如何將日常教學工具（如電子郵件、表格）與大型語言模型 (LLMs) 進行技術串聯。引導教師構建初級自動化工作流，處理資料統籌與分析等任務，提升整體教研效率。
時間：參與學校可根據日程自由安排時間，最早可於2026年8月開始。

地點：我們的團隊與業界合作夥伴將親臨參與學校的校園，提供現場支援。

Introduction

Our AI for Science Education Programme, aligned with the Education Bureau's AI for Science Education Funding Programme (EDBCM No. 227/2024), is designed to empower and meet the needs of secondary school science teachers in the GenAI era.

Activities include an online AI course, a series of AI seminars, and various AI workshops, all of which will provide practical, hands-on experiences tailored to the Hong Kong science curriculum.

Led by Professor Cecilia K.Y. Chan, an internationally recognised leader in AI in education, our programme is divided into two independent components:

The AI Short-Term Programme includes a self-paced online AI course, AI seminars, and an AI workshop to provide teachers with comprehensive and professional training in using GenAI for secondary school science teaching.

★Up to 8 teachers can enrol in Part A for each school.
6 hours Online AI Course
Topics include AI's applications in education, ethical issues, AI in assessment, and AI literacy frameworks. There will be practical, hands-on activities designed for junior secondary science subjects. This online course allows teachers to complete and revisit modules at their own pace, with no fixed class times.
6 AI Seminars
A series of seminars on topics such as applications of GenAI in science teaching, AI-driven assessment, and AI data training will be provided by renowned professors from HKU and other leading international universities, as well as by industry experts.
2 hours Workshop: AI Apps for Educators and Students
This 2-hour workshop will provide an introduction to AI apps and practical demonstrations. Topics will include using AI for tasks like video generation, data analysis, pedagogical design, and administrative tasks. There will be hands-on demonstrations and classroom scenarios to support effective AI tool usage and teaching practices.
Location of activities:

③Sessions for the workshop, "AI Apps for Educators and Students", will be held on campus at HKU.
Our team and industry partners will provide direct School-Based Support to participating schools, which involves hands-on workshops to explore open-source AI models and AI-powered robotics for science teaching.

1 to 2 programme team members who hold a PhD, Master's, and/or Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field will provide onsite support.

★There is no cap on the number of teachers who can enrol in Part B. Participation in the workshop activities is limited to science teachers.
3 hours x 2 Workshops
Onsite Workshop I - Machine Learning: With a theme of “Smart Oceans and Coral Conservation,” explore image classification models (e.g., Teachable Machine and TensorFlow) by collecting data and training AI models to identify Hong Kong stony coral species, and gain practical experience in applying AI techniques in environmental education.

Onsite Workshop II - 5G Internet of Things (IoT) for Teaching & Learning: Practical experience with integrating AI and IoT for teaching and learning, including using sensors for real-time data collection, building chatbots, and designing smart dashboards.
Expo /Conference
Share and showcase your AI-integrated science teaching projects at the end-of-programme conference. This conference will also provide an opportunity for teachers to network and for the dissemination of best practices.
Time: Participating schools can choose to arrange the onsite workshops according to their preferences and availabilities. Part B can begin as early as July 2025.

Location: Our team and industry partners will provide the school-based support onsite at each participating school.

This advanced course is tailored for educators seeking to deepen their technical applications, comprehensively elevating their practical AI skills in teaching and administration through three core stages.
1 to 2 programme team members who hold a PhD, Master's, and/or Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field will provide onsite support.

★There is no cap on the number of teachers who can enrol in Part D. Participation in the workshop activities is limited to science teachers.
3 hours Workshop
Highlight I - Foundational AI App Development: Teachers will be guided through entry-level science topics to gain initial hands-on experience and build foundational AI-powered teaching applications.

Highlight II - Advanced AI App Development: This session tackles science teaching topics of higher complexity (e.g., simulating scientific experiments). It assists teachers in mastering customised AI application development techniques to meet the demands of advanced classroom instruction.

Highlight III - AI Automated Workflow: Explore how to technically integrate daily teaching tools (such as email and spreadsheets/forms) with Large Language Models (LLMs). Teachers will be guided to build preliminary automated workflows to handle tasks such as data flow processing and analysis, thereby enhancing overall teaching and research efficiency.
Time: Participating schools can choose to arrange the onsite workshops according to their preferences and availabilities. Part D can begin as early as August 2026.

所有參與教師皆可獲頒結業證書。若學校完成「A：短期課程」或/及「B：校本支援」兩項計劃，將可獲授予「AI教育實驗室夥伴」牌匾，以彰顯合作關係。

此外，完成A與B計劃亦已符合教育局對參與學校所要求的三項基本計劃成果，無需另行提交其他證明。

Enrolment and Contact:

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Schools are strongly encouraged to utilise the Education Bureau's "AI for Science Education" Funding Programme (EDBCM No. 227/2024) to cover programme fees.

All participating teachers will receive a Certificate of Completion. Schools that complete Part A or/and Part B will receive an “HKU AI in Education Lab Partner” plaque. Completing both parts of the programme will enable participants to fulfil the EDB’s three required deliverables.

AI STEAM Course

Led by Professor Chan, our team is also developing professional development courses to assist teachers in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into their teaching, learning, and assessment practices. Our upcoming STEAM-focused AI course will be developed in collaboration with industry partners and international organisations. This course will be designed to empower educators with fundamental knowledge and comprehension of AI, preparing them to navigate the integration of AI into their classrooms and teaching methodologies.

Building upon the foundational AI literacy courses, the forthcoming professional development course will deliver hands-on training tailored to incorporating subject-specific AI tools into classroom instruction, learning activities, and assessments. This hybrid course will equip educators with the requisite knowledge and competencies to harness AI effectively within educational environments, thereby enhancing student learning outcomes and fostering a culture of innovative teaching practices.
